This course is for the beginner–new to oil paint as a medium– as well as experienced painter who would like to brush up on their skills or explore different techniques.
We will learn the fundamentals and vocabulary of oil painting.
How to organize your palette, mix colors, blend and use mediums will be explored.
We will focus on painting techniques –including underpainting, brushwork, glazing and alla prima.
Supplies: Basic Oil Palette CERULEAN BLUE CADMIUM LEMON ULTRAMARINE BLUE ALIZARIN CRIMSON TITANIUM WHITE (large tube) CADMIUM RED MEDIUM YELLOW OCHRE RAW UMBER RAW SIENNA BURNT SIENNA DIOXANE VIOLET VIRIDIAN QUINACRIDONE MAGENTA Painting medium: Linseed Oil or medium such as Galkyd, Liquin, Neo Megilp Rags or good quality paper towels (I like the blue automotive towels) Palette: enamel, glass, disposable palette, stay wet, etc..
Palette knife (I prefer a small, trowel shape for mixing on palette) Brushes- various sizes …Brights, filberts (a small round or angled is useful for details) Sable essence, natural bristle or Synthetic or mixed brushes are recommended.
Solvent: odor-free solvent such as Gamsol or Turpenoid, and a jar with a lid or other container/brush cleaning container for solvent Supports: Several canvases, canvas panels, wood panels (square or rectangular) – any sizes 8” x 10” or larger (personal preference)
Rebecca earned Bachelor Degrees from University of Texas at Austin in both Fine Arts and Liberal Arts as well as a post-graduate certificate in Non-Profit Management. She has a Master of Liberal Arts from Tulane University.
