This class will explore sculpture as storytelling.

Students will build clay sculptures that create a narrative using elements like figures, animals, plants, or personal symbols to represent storylines that can be real, fiction, or both.

You do not need to have experience, a specific story, or sculpture idea!

During the first class there will be a presentation and discussion about representational sculpture, how narratives are conveyed, symbols, and metaphor.

We will look at sources from ancient myths to modern surrealism to inspire you and then there will be time to sketch and consult about ideas.

Students will learn clay sculpting techniques and will explore how to express their ideas through gesture, emotion, and objects.

Clay sculptures will be fired at the end of class.

This class is for all levels - from beginners to advanced.

Everyone will receive individual guidance to bring their vision to life.

25 lb bag of clay included Clay tools will be available to use during class

Other materials needed: Cloth rags (t-shirt material or tea towels) Plastic bags Sketchbook or paper and drawing tools
