Working in oils, the focus of this course will be on alla prima painting techniques, completing a painting each class session.
Students will learn about palette organization and color mixing to encourage working quickly and decisively.
Each week will focus on a different flower, working from direct observation, using expressive brushstrokes and wet-on-wet blending to capture of the essences and complexity of the subject.
Supplies: Basic Oil Palette CERULEAN BLUE CADMIUM LEMON ULTRAMARINE BLUE ALIZARIN CRIMSON TITANIUM WHITE (large tube) CADMIUM RED MEDIUM YELLOW OCHRE RAW UMBER RAW SIENNA BURNT SIENNA DIOXANE VIOLET VIRIDIAN QUINACRIDONE MAGENTA Painting medium: Linseed Oil or medium such as Galkyd, Liquin, Neo Megilp Rags or good quality paper towels (I like the blue automotive towels) Palette: enamel, glass, disposable palette, stay wet, etc..
Palette knife (I prefer a small, trowel shape for mixing on palette) Brushes- various sizes …Brights, filberts (a small round or angled is useful for details) Sable essence, natural bristle or Synthetic or mixed brushes are recommended.
Solvent: odor-free solvent such as Gamsol or Turpenoid, and a jar with a lid or other container/brush cleaning container for solvent Supports: 6-8 panels or canvases, sized from about 8” x 8” to 12”x 12” (square or rectangular) -your preference.
Pre-requisite: Some painting experience in oils in recommended.
Rebecca earned Bachelor Degrees from University of Texas at Austin in both Fine Arts and Liberal Arts as well as a post-graduate certificate in Non-Profit Management. She has a Master of Liberal Arts from Tulane University.
