Relief Sculpture: Botanicals and Birds
Learn the art of relief sculpture with a focus on creating a scene with flowers, plants, and birds. You'll learn to create a layered scene with depth in relief. Students will choose their own subject by bringing reference photos to work from*. In the first class we will focus on designing a scene from elements in your reference photos and your interests. Sculpting in clay you’ll learn to create a likeness of your subjects within the structure of a relief. Students will gain an understanding of how to design a low or high relief composite image, techniques of texture and modeling to sculpt birds, feathers, flowers, and how to represent depth in the shallow field of a relief. Students can choose to have their relief fired or learn plaster mold techniques to create multiple relief tiles. All levels are welcome. There will be individual attention to each students project and needs within a supportive class environment.

Heidi is a mixed-media sculpture and installation artist trained in traditional figure sculpting techniques.
