Sculpting a Self Portrait - Heidi Mortensen

Create a portrait bust of yourself in clay.
Working from photographs and mirrors, students will learn the techniques of portrait sculpting using themselves as a model.*
Creating a self portrait is a practical way to closely study facial features but also an opportunity for creative self expression in how you want to portray yourself.
Students will gain an understanding of facial anatomy and learn techniques of clay modeling. You will also learn how best to use photos for reference and how to analyze them to understand the forms you are sculpting.
Completed work will be fired and we will finish them with paint techniques or glaze at the end of class.
All levels are welcome. There will be individual attention to each student's project within a supportive class environment.
*Students will supply their own reference photos. Instructions on recommended angles, lighting, and how to photograph for capturing details will be sent to students prior to the class.
Included:
- 25 lb bag of clay
- Clay tools will be available for use in class
Bring:
- Reference photos printed out on standard 8 x 11 paper
