Monoprinting Mardi Gras:
THURSDAY Feb 12 (4pm-8pm) - Meet at the Printmaking Studio for 4:00 PM and stay for the duration of the parade.
FRIDAY Feb 13 (10am-2pm) - Meet at the Printmaking Studio for 10:00AM - 2:00PM
Monoprinting (reverse painting) encourages the spontaneous. The image develops in a short period of time.
(a few hours, sometimes less)
Therefore it is a fitting medium to paint the fleeting moments of a Mardi Gras Parade. Not as the camera freezes the moment, but how we respond with our sight and emotions.
We have the opportunity to paint and print images from a Magazine St parade from the porch to the studio, accessing the press, to print seamlessly on site.
Hermes Friday: The first day of the session will be devoted to monoprinting with the press. Archival inks that are applied like oil paints will be provided with printing papers. Bring a few of your own oil painting brushes.
The second day will be devoted to finishing the monoprints with watercolors, charcoal, and pastels. Please bring your own favorites. A limited amount of watercolors and pastels will be available.
