Intro to Color & Design - Patti Adams


In this eight-week class, we will explore the basic principles of color theory and design. Areas of study will include creating a value scale and color wheel; creating a wide variety of original illustrations to explore color mixing and values: Mixing color using Tints, Tones and Shades; Complementary Contrast; Warm & Cool; Secondaries; Adjacent color mixtures and more!
The medium we will use in this class is gouache. No previous experience is required.
A supply kit will be provided for a fee. A kit containing gouache paints, brush, pencil, eraser, a Bristol pad, and compass will be available for purchase when you arrive for your first class
(Cost approximately $150)
Supplies In addition to the kit, please bring the following: Scissors Ruler Glass or plastic containers for rinsing your brush (e.g., glass jar or plastic cup) White plastic or ceramic dinner plate to use as a palette (gouache can stain, so bring an old one), Paper towels Notebook and pen Drafting or masking tape Other small brushes; you will be advised on what you need during the first class.

Patti Adams is a professional artist and musician who has lived and worked in New Orleans since 1982. Her work is defined by her wide-ranging interests in calligraphy, gilding, painting in watercolor and oils, book illustration, and color theory.
