The class is designed for the painting student who already has some experience, and a solid understanding of basic painting techniques who wish to advance their skills. Students will focus on refining their own personal style while exploring composition, mark-making/brushwork, color theory, and technique through more complex subjects.
Intermediate Oil Palette CERULEAN BLUE CADMIUM YELLOW LIGHT ULTRAMARINE BLUE VIRIDIAN ALIZARIN CRIMSON TITANIUM WHITE (large tube) CADMIUM RED MEDIUM CADMIUM ORANGE* YELLOW OCHRE RAW UMBER RAW SIENNA* BURNT SIENNA DIOXANE VIOLET* QUINACRIDONE MAGENTA *nice to have, but not necessary BLACK is not necessary…your “blacks” can be mixed with other hues; however, if you do want a black, I would suggest Chromatic Black or Ivory Black. Painting medium: such as Linseed Oil, Walnut Oil, Galkyd, Galkyd Gel, or Liquin Bar of soap (ie. lava), rags or good quality paper towels (blue automotive towels are great), Solvent: odor-free solvent such as Gamsol or Turpenoid, and a jar with a lid or other container/brush cleaning container for solvent. If you prefer to be solvent free –baby oil or safflower oil can be used for clean-up. Enamel, glass, stay wet, disposable palette, etc.. Palette knife – small trowel shape best for mixing on palette. Brushes- various sizes. Brights or filberts. A couple of small rounds or angle brushes are useful for details. Sable, Sable essence, natural white bristle or synthetic mixed brushes specifically for oil painting are recommended of various bristle firmness. Painting supports and surfaces: various sized canvas (stretched or unstretched), canvas panel or other prepared painting surface **More detailed information about painting supports needed will be emailed prior to the start of the class.
