In this class you will learn to sculpt flowers and plants, and how to create a layered botanical scene with depth in clay.
Students will choose their own subject by bringing reference photos of the flowers and plants they want to depict.*
In the first class we will focus on designing a scene using the flowers and plants in your reference photos — you may include insects and birds as well!
Students will learn clay sculpting techniques, how to create textures, and how to represent depth in the sculptural form of a relief panel.
Clay relief sculptures will be fired, and the final class will focus on finishing techniques using paint or glaze to enhance the sculpted forms and bring color to the work.
All levels are welcome! There will be individual attention to each student's project and needs within a supportive class environment.
*Students supply their own reference photos of the plants and flowers they would like to work with. Suggestions for the best types of photos will be sent to students prior to the class. Photos can be on a digital device for the first class.
