Come draw the figure in all its forms, clothed, semi-clothed, and nude, and explore how fabric, folds, and the occasional hat sit on and describe the body beneath. This class works from live models of all shapes, sizes, ages, and styles.
We will focus on fast, gestural poses with an emphasis on grounding the figure, discovering weight and balance, and following the internal lines that travel through the body.
Most sessions will feature quick poses and 20-minute studies, with occasional longer poses in the second half of the semester.
As we hone our ability to quickly establish overall proportions, we will examine the role of contour line work and explore what can be captured with line alone before introducing some sumi ink washes in the latter half of the class.
