Few media can match the expressiveness and immediacy of pen and ink. Drawing inspiration from the greatmasters of the Renaissance, the minimalist landscape artists of Japan, and the classic book illustrators of the19th and early 20th centuries, we will study and practice the ways pen and ink can be used to create anendless variety of textures and effects. Students will learn to use cross hatching, stippling, scumbling, contourlines and other techniques to render three-dimensional forms and create value. Using pens, brushes, Indiaink and ink wash, each student will work through exercises and projects designed to help guide them towardsdiscovering their own unique style.
