Color and Perception at NOAFA
Tuesdays 9:30am-12:30pm,
Sept 30 -Dec 9, no class on Oct 14 or Nov 25, 9 classes
Description: Color is fundamental to any kind ofpainting, but it is also one of the most complex, challenging, and personalaspects. During this class, we will develop our skills in perceiving, mixing, and using color with sensitivity. We will do a series of mostly stilllife-oriented projects that will challenge us to engage with specific aspectsof color. These exercises will expand our personal color vocabulary and help usto observe subtle color relationships and mix colors with greater acuity.Towards the end of the course, we will work on more self-directed paintingsthat involve an intentional color scheme. While this is not a traditional colortheory class, we will dig into how we think about mixing colors, get to knowthe various color “personalities” on our palette, and experiment with ways touse our palette to mix any color we want. This class is appropriate forintermediate to advanced painters with at least some prior introductorypainting experience. It is open to acrylic or oil painters.
