Beginning Photography: Part 1 - Richard Vallon


Please bring:
- Your SLR or mirrorless camera
- Any lenses you may have
Make sure you have a good battery and that it is charged before class.
Classes are small so students can participate and request information specific to their interests, including:
- Landscapes
- Portraits
- Action photography
We will cover:
- The basic parts of the camera and their functions
- Camera care
- Memory cards
- Batteries
- Changing lenses
Students will learn the various important automatic modes, including:
- P mode, which allows brighter or darker exposures
- A, aperture priority mode, which allows you to blur backgrounds when using telephoto lenses
- S mode for action images or night photography
The class will also discuss:
- Frequently used and less expensive kit lenses
- Normal zooms
- Telephoto zooms
Students will learn to take images using lovely window light, similar to techniques used by the old masters.

- Please bring the camera you have
Advice will be given personally for students who want to:
- Purchase their first SLR or mirrorless camera
- Upgrade their current equipment

Richard Vallon
Richard Vallon Jr. was born and raised in New Orleans. A graduate of ASU with a BFA (photography), he has enjoyed teaching photography since 1981. He has taught the UNO Metro College photo classes and classes at Lakeside Camera since 2004.
