This class will explore abstracting the human form.
Unlike sculptures that strive to recreate the exact likeness of a person, abstract figure sculpture uses the human form in a more interpretive manner to convey emotions, ideas, and concepts.
We will discuss different ways to work with the figure in an abstracted manner through exaggeration, fragmentation, or distortion to express a particular mood, theme, or philosophical idea.
Having some basic figure sculpting experience will be helpful in this class but it is not required. Everyone will receive individual attention to bring their vision to life.
Students will learn clay sculpting techniques and the finished work will be fired at the end of class.
