Course Description:
Watercolor has a swift and immediate impact from the brush to the surface of the paper, capturing both the representational and abstract. In this class, we will explore the history, foundational concepts, techniques, and applications to create individual abstract expressions. From its inception to the present, this water-based medium has been used widely and in a variety of ways in art history. We will explore essential methods of application and techniques of this immediate and transparent water-based media, including color mixing, brush control, layering, glazing, wet-on-wet, dry techniques, and other foundational concepts effectively to achieve these various effects.
The course highlights watercolor's ability to capture representational and abstract expression due to its immediacy and transparency.
