Course Title: Intro To Drawing For All Levels

Content: The main goal of this class is disciplining the hand to translate what the eye sees onto the drawing surface. Through the repeated physical activity of drawing, students will refine their dexterity and intellectual powers of observation and visualization. Participants will work primarily from observation to strengthen their perceptual abilities.

Course Objectives:

This course has two primary objectives:

1. To embellish the student’s disciplining of the hand to work in concert with the eye through techniques, devices, and tools.

2. To attune students to how these drawing aspects can be utilized to visually convey specific concerns.

Students will develop a deeper understanding of spatial relationships, fostering a visual and material language for two-dimensional space.

Course Focus:

● Techniques and tools introduced in beginning drawing (e.g., contour, sighting, vertical and horizontal alignments, one- and two-point perspective).

● The Figurative style as a practice to approach spatial elements in drawing.

● Designed for basic and intermediate skill levels.

● Students will work with pencil, charcoal, and pastels throughout the course.

Measurable Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

● Develop productive working habits and time management skills.

● Draw with greater confidence and skill.

● Strengthen their observational skills.

● Achieve accuracy in drawn relationships, including:

○ Line

○ Scale

○ Shape

○ Volume

○ Value

○ Texture

● Gain an understanding of values and linear perspectives

Introducing Artists:

Each session will begin with a short presentation related to the day’s practice. Students will be introduced to accomplished artists whose works provide insight and inspiration, emphasizing the importance of learning to see as part of the drawing process.
