Instructor: Lyle Colombo
Description: This course combines in-studio drawing time with guided exercises in creative writing. We will explore what it means to be a self by trying our hand at poetry, memoir, creative non-fiction, flash fiction, and short story. Each writing form is paired with a complementary exercise in visual arts (such as drawing, color drawing, and collage). Each meeting will begin with short, guided exercises in creative writing and drawing, during which time we will review the essential elements of creative writing and the basic design elements of the visual arts. This will be followed by time to develop and work on more substantial projects. Students will occasionally work in pairs and small groups. This course is suitable for all skill levels; no prior drawing or creative writing experience is needed.
Materials Needed:
Louisiana native Lyle Colombo paints portraits, landscapes, and works of abstract realism in oil on panel using traditional techniques. She continually seeks new ways to make representational painting, particularly the figure, relevant to the contemporary world.
