Description:
The Abstraction in Figure Drawing course has two primary objectives: Firstly the students will learn/review about the techniques and tools appropriated in Beginning (contour, sighting, vertical and horizontal alignments, one- and two-point perspective, etc.). Secondly the course focuses on the Figurative Abstraction style as a practice to approach the space in the drawing. This course is designed for both basic and intermediate level. The students will be introduced to pencil, charcoal and ink during the course.
MEASURABLE OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
- Learn about abstraction in figure.
- Understand accuracy of drawn relationships (line, scale, shape, volume, value, texture, etc.)
- Learning about values and linear perspectives in figure.
- Learn to prioritize and utilize different ways of drawing for personal outcomes / effects.
Introduce artists: Since learning to draw requires learning how to see, looking at accomplished artists’ renderings throughout history is an important discipline to maintain. In the beginning of every practice, I will give a short presentation about the practice of the day and introduce some new artists related to the class practice.
Class Information
The main goal of this class is learning the space of abstraction in relation to the figurative approach. The students will learn to discipline the hand to translate what the eye sees onto the drawing surface. And also learning to create their own content to place the figure in the space. Through the repeated physical activity of drawing, students will refine their dexterity and intellectual powers of observation and visualization of human figures.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: The course has two primary objectives: first, to embellish the student’s disciplining of the hand to work in concert with the eye through techniques, devices, and tools appropriated in Beginning (contour, sighting, vertical and horizontal alignments, etc.). Second, the course should attune the student to how these aspects of drawing might be utilized in visually conveying specific concerns. Through each session, we will develop a growing understanding of spatial relationships to develop visual and conceptual language for two-dimensional space.
MEASURABLE OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
- Understand the human figure in the relation to 2-dimensional space of the paper.
- Develop working habits and how to manage time.
- Learn to draw with more confidence and skill.
- Strengthen their observational skills.
- Understand accuracy of drawn relationships (line, scale, shape, volume, value, texture, etc.)
- Learn figurative abstraction techniques
Introduce artists: Since learning to draw requires learning how to see, looking at accomplished artists’ renderings throughout history is an important discipline to maintain. In the beginning of every project, I will give a short presentation about the practice of the day and introduce some new artists related to the class practice.
