3D Workshop: Life Size Character Creation (7-10 yrs)
Instructor: Sara Nyquist
Throughout this course, students design, plan, and build a life size character driven sculpture of their own and work collaboratively to create an immersive habitat for their creations to live. Young artists are guided through the process of character design and learn to translate two-dimensional drawings into 3D objects. The building process introduces multiple sculptural techniques and structural principles, challenging students to construct standalone objects with height, depth, width, and weight. They will bring their objects to life, completing their distinctive characters with paint, assemblage, elements of soft sculpture, and costume creation.
Each student will leave this course with a large scale three-dimensional character of their own making.

Sara Nyquist is a multidisciplinary artist living in New Orleans. She taught this summer in our Fine Arts Summer Camp, and she now joins our faculty.
